Head of Faculty
Our aim is for students to enjoy learning mathematics. We aim to develop problem solvers and logical thinkers who can succeed in life. Our curriculum allows students to develop the knowledge and skills to be successful and then builds on this and challenges pupils to apply mathematical reasoning to solve problems.
Homework will be set weekly. They will receive both an electronic piece of homework on Mathswatch and a written piece of homework every Friday due for the following Friday.
Parents should encourage students to use Mathswatch for additional revision and there will also be opportunities to get additional help after school or at lunch time. Parents should encourage their children to practice their times tables on a regular basis and constantly test them.

Students will complete Mini Assessments every fortnight to assess their learning. Their weaknesses will then be identified and they will work to close gaps in their knowledge after each assessment. At the end of every cycle students will also sit an assessment. This will allow teachers, parents and students to continuously focus on their areas for improvement.
Mathematics is a compulsory subject at KS4. Over the course of Year 10 and 11 students will follow specific long term plans to match their ability and enable them to reach their full potential.
Students will continue to complete Mini Assessments every fortnight to assess their learning. At the end of Y11 students will sit three exams in maths and achieve a grade from 1-9.
Each paper is one and a half hours long and out of 80 marks. The course will be taught and examined in two tiers; Foundation and Higher. Students will be continuously assessed by their class teacher using a range of strategies to ensure that their progress is maximised. Past exam papers are also used weekly in the last term.
